Recovery Ministry

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;

and wisdom to know the difference.

The University Church strives to be a church that encourages and helps facilitate love, hope, and healing. We want to be honest and open about what is happening in our lives. This means that we promote an atmosphere where, as fellow strugglers, we can share our hurts, reveal our feelings, disclose our doubts, admit our fears, acknowledge our weaknesses, and ask for help and prayer. This is the heart of our Recovery Ministry.

The center of this ministry is our 12 Step Spiritual Recovery Group, which meets each Sunday morning at 9:00 AM and each Wednesday night at 7:00 PM.  In a class setting, the group studies the Bible, and other Christian based recovery materials, to teach and emphasize a Christ-based, spiritual recovery that adapts and utilizes the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, yet relies on the power of God’s Spirit for true and lasting healing and recovery. The group is made up of people who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other, that they might solve their common problems and help one another not only to live soberly, but to grow spiritually as well.  Anyone is welcome to attend.

Many of us have found that this type of supportive environment helps us deal not only with various addictions in our lives or the lives of loved ones, but also with simply living life and dealing better with the everyday problems that arise.  We seek progress, one day at a time. We are grateful recipients of God’s ever-loving grace and unconditional love. Our prayer is for serenity—revealed to us by God through the Holy Spirit.

The University Church also allows different 12 Step groups from the community to meet at our facility throughout the week. Many of these meetings are open meetings.  Please contact the church office at 753-1881 for a schedule of meetings.
